Barbara Joyce Todd, 94, of Island Park, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014, at her home with her daughter Pamela by her side.

She was born August 4, 1920, in Lesley, Michigan to Clair and Gladys Chapman. She had two brothers Bob Chapman and Don Chapman. In 1925, the family moved from Michigan to Los Angeles, where she grew up with a close circle of friends from her Methodist Church. There were about 30 children in this group and even through high school and marriage, they remained close friends and were all able to meet annually until each of their passing. This reunion always brought great joy to Barbara each year.

She graduated from High School in 1938 . She married Carl Ruff of Coronado, California in 1940. Together they had three children, Pamela J. Ruff and Thomas P. Ruff and Robert Ruff. Robert passed at seven months of age. Carl worked as a machinist for the government during World War II and Barbara volunteered for the neighborhood watch. In 1945, they moved to Santa Ana, CA and opened Ruff Saw Service, a machine and blacksmith shop.

Later, Barbara married Donald Todd of Orange County, CA. Together, with their family, they ran the Henry's Lake Lodge and developed the North Shore Club. They opened the first real estate company, Island Park Realty, in Island Park. They helped shape Island Park tourism into what so many call, "our little piece of heaven". They developed the Island Park Resort and Golf Course, where Barbara continued to own the first condo built until 2013. They also developed the Rancho McRea subdivision and more.

Barbara was also involved in many local activities and charities. She headed the first fundraiser for the Island Park QRU which helped to purchase the first medical transport unit, and was involved in many of the ladies luncheon, sewing, golf and fund-raising groups, often opening her home as a gracious host.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald Todd, son Robert Ruff, and brother Bob Chapman.

She is survived by her daughter Pamela J. Ruff of Island Park; son Thomas (Susan) Ruff of Orange County; brother Don (Lois) Chapman of Kernville, CA; and her grandchildren Paul Ruff of California, Victoria Schmidts of California, Annalisa Johnson of New Zealand, Jessica Beegle of California, Abby Todd of Island Park and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 22, at the Little Church in the Pines, in Island Park with Pastor Connie Day officiating. The family will receive friends Friday at the church for one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Targhee Cemetery under the direction of Baxter Funeral Home.
