Bruce K. Spitz, 57, of Ashton, died September 16, 2015, in Hardin, Montana of natural causes. He was born May 16, 1958, in St. Anthony, Idaho to Goldie and Erwin Spitz.
He attended school in Ashton and graduated from North Fremont High School in 1976. After high school he joined the Marine Corps.
After his honorable discharge from the Marines he returned to Ashton.
He worked at many different jobs in the area. He worked for Cordingley Logging and the City of Ashton. He farmed for Mark Kuehl and Steinman Farms. At the time of his death he was driving truck for Gould Trucking. He was a good driver and took meticulous care of his truck.
He married Sharon Ann Bolland on July 17, 1993, at Zion Lutheran Church.
He was a member of the Berean Baptist Church in Ashton.
He enjoyed hunting and snowmachining with his son Shane and friend Rudy. He liked go pan for gold. He made friends easily and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Sharon of Ashton; daughters, Toshia (Jorge) Chavez of Denver, Colorado, Kelly (Daniel) Henning of California, Lillis Spitz of Oregon; son, Shane Spitz of San Diego, California; a sister Ellie Veneman; and a grandson Xavier Chavez. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law Leroy Bolland, brothers Boyd Spitz and Leo "Bud" Spitz, and sisters Elaine Olsen and Phyllis Hess.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22, at the Ashton Community United Methodist Church, 178 South 5th Street, with Pastor David Nichols of the Berean Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Baxter Funeral Home in Ashton, and Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion and Idaho Honor Guard. Interment will be in the Squirrel Cemetery.
