William Clarence "Clair" Allison, 90, was born November 22, 1934, to James Lewis Allison and Sarah Caroline Call Allison in Ashton, Idaho and was the 5th of 8 children. He was raised in Ashton and Island Park. He died peacefully surrounded by family, Sunday May 4, at 8:24 am.
Logging was a family affair, and the whole family stayed in the logging camp together. Clair was a jack of all trades, learning many different skills from family and friends. He graduated from North Fremont High School in 1952, then joined the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1955. He served a mission in the New England States from 1956 to 1958. He worked for the Forest Service, as a City Judge for Ashton and he managed other businesses like the Movie theater, the Husky In and Out, the City Swimming pool. He did the books for Tri-County Equipment and ran the John Deere Dealership for 4.5 years in Mud Lake. He then became a mail carrier for the US Postal Service. He did this for several years.
He dated and married Allyn Cherry November 14, 1973. They built a house on the Ashton Hill and moved in July of 1977, where they raised their family. Clair served in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, including in the bishopric and high council. He served the ward and branches in Yellowstone National Park and West Yellowstone for many years and at the Ashton Nursing home. He taught by example and he showed and taught his children how to work hard and to never give up.
He loved to ride horses, go camping, take drives, build with his hands, write, read books, snow mobile, hunt and garden. He did taxes for family and friends, He also loved mowing his lawn in his later years doing Family History and Indexing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Wayne, Lynn, and Jimmie Allison and his sister Marie Allison Marshall.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years Allyn Cherry Allison and his 4 children and their families. James Brad Allison, Matthew Clair Allison (Lizett Tinajero Allison), Betty Ann Merrill (TJ Merrill), Benjamin LaVar Allison (Sarah Blackwelder Allison). 14 grandchildren, Jonathan Kramer (Cassie), JVon Kramer, Austin Allison, Alexis Allison, Annalee Allison, Porter Merrill, Ella Merrill, Samantha Merrill, Levi Merrill, Katie Allison, William Allison, Mason Allison, McKenzie Allison, Jackson Allison. One great grandchild, Ever Jay Kramer. 3 siblings, his sisters Laura Love (Tom Love), Jane Harvey (Bill Harvey), and one brother Darren Allison.
His funeral will be Friday, May 9, at 11:00 am at the Ashton Stake Center. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., both times at the stake center. Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery with full military honors.
