Obituary

Our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle & friend, Cody J Eckman, surrounded by his loved ones, returned to Heaven to see his mother and grandparents on Friday, October 20, 2023.

Cody was born on January 10, 1964, the second child, and the first son of Rodney Eldon and Pearl LuRay Eckman.  He grew up loving life with his friends and his sister and brother.  As he grew up his main objective was to take care of his Mom.  As he grew up he developed a fond love for golf.  He played often with his good friend Paul.  HIs golf accolades include a Hole in one at the Fremont County Golf course on hole #6 during the Oldsmobile Scramble.  Cody graduated from South Fremont High School in 1982.  He served a full-time mission from 1983 to 1985 in the Raleigh North Carolina mission. Cody and Kaelyn Brown met at Ricks College and then spent a few years growing up. Cody went to ISU to continue his education and Kaelyn went back to Arizona. After several years apart they found each other again and began dating. Cody and Kaelyn were married for time and all eternity in Idaho Falls Idaho Temple on August 18, 1989.

Cody graduated from ISU in 1990 and he and Kaelyn moved to Ogden Utah. Cody worked for K-Mart and while working there he ran into Art Greenwell.  He brought Art home to Pearl. Art became a wonderful stepfather to Cindy, Cody, and Chance.

Cody and Kaelyn were blessed with two children Casey and Kari Eckman, who were and always have been his joy.  As they grew up, he loved and cared for them with all his heart.

Cody returned from Ogden and started working for Farmers Insurance where he worked for 34 years.  He served the community as a member of the Rotary Club for many years and made contributions to every group or school need that came along.   The main contribution that he loved was the Education Foundation. His support was used in sports, libraries, and even the band program.  He always helped anyone who was in need.

Cody was one of the most kind and thoughtful people and affected everyone around him. He was a die-hard Steelers fan who loved watching them and loved his "Steelers" family.  He helped coach several sports at the Junior High in St. Anthony including wrestling and football.  He was not only a fan of sports but of the kids and helped build many of them on their way to the men they have become.

Cody had a deep love for the game of golf, even playing into his later years taking his oxygen along with him and buying a small generator to recharge his machine on the cart. His many golfing friends have missed him the last little while when he was sick and struggling.

He has always been a man of honor. When he told you what was right you could count on it being right.  He lived his life in a way that no one would accuse him of any act of dishonor.  He always laughed when his brother teased him saying, "You can't trust insurance companies and agents."  He made sure that no one could ever say that about him.

Cody was blessed to be a grandfather to LeLand Gregory J Eckman. Kari and Brody were honored to give LeLand his middle name J, because it has been passed down on both sides of the family for generations. Cody loved everything about being a Grandpa CoCo and saw LeLand first steps before his passing.

Cody is survived by his wife Kaelyn Eckman and his two children Casey, and Kari (Brody Hart) Eckman; his grandchild, LeLand Gregory J Eckman;  sister Cindy Eckman;  brother Chance (Amy) Eckman;  and his nieces and nephews, aunts, and uncles and brother and sister in law. He is also surivived by his father Rodney (Coleen) Eckman.

He is preceded in death by Pearl and Arlen Greenwell;  Betty Jean Crandall, his beloved aunt; and his parents-in-law, Betty and William Brown.

The family will receive friends and family Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the St. Anthony Stake Center.  Private family services will be held at the Wilford Cemetery.
