Obituary

William Daniel (“Dan”) Maupin, 62, of Ashton, passed away June 30, 2022, of natural causes. He was born February 17, 1960, in Ashton, Idaho to Theone W. (“Tony”) and Madeline Atchley Maupin. He was raised and attended schools in Ashton. He graduated from North Fremont High School in 1979. He worked in the family oil business all of his working years. Dan loved being on the road and driving the oil trucks. As a child he loved to ride with his father as they delivered gas and oil around Fremont County. Trips to Island Park were planned at the end of the day to include a fishing trip. During the Yellowstone fire in 1988, he was the fuel distributor for the government and fire crews. Dan and Trenna R. Solomon were married on June 5, 1982, in Ashton. Four children were born to this union, Blaze, TediRae, Moriah, and Ridge. He grew up in the Lutheran Church. While not a religious man, Dan felt closest to God on horseback at the top of a mountain. Dan enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding horses. Hunting camp was the highlight of each year. He was a joyous person and loved to laugh. He was also a storyteller. He would entertain his family and friends with his whimsical view of the world, tall tales and corny Dad jokes. He is survived by Trenna Maupin; his children, Blaze Maupin, TediRae (Timothy) Edwards, Moriah (Braidan) Martindale, Ridge W. Maupin; his siblings, Cheryl (Steve) Manginelli, Theone W. (Carol Ann) Maupin Jr.; his seven grandchildren, Legacie, Lybertie, Banker, Birdie, Legend, Boston, and Lincoln; and his horse, “No. 7". Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Madeline Maupin. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, at the Ashton 4th Ward chapel, 1313 North 3600 East. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 at Baxter Funeral Home, 717 Main Street, in Ashton, and Thursday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.
