David Freddie Burk, 70, of Chester, Idaho, died August 29, 2017, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born November 13, 1946, in Pocatello, Idaho to Fredrick Humphrey and Marjorie Cleo Daniels Burk. He attended schools in Pocatello and graduated from Highland High School.
After high school he moved to the Challis and Salmon area. He worked as a rancher and as an outfitter in the Salmon River country.
During this time he went to Alaska and started a guiding/outfitting business there. After a number of years working in the interior of Alaska he went to the coast where he worked on a boat as a sport fishing guide. He then worked to get his Coast Guard license and became a Captain for the Yakutat and Glacier Bear Lodges in Alaska.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He married Linda Parish on February 25, 2010, in Malad, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on March 28, 2013. Between summers spent in Alaska, they made their home in Chester.
Dave had a passion for hunting and fishing. He started a little league in Challis that created lifelong friendships with many young boys. This football team would go on to beat even the state champions. He also helped coach discus and shot at Challis and North Fremont High schools. He loved coaching and working with and encouraging the kids. He drove school bus and enjoyed the kids he interacted with daily. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Andria Shepard, Niki Pinney, Beau Burk, Damon Burk; his mother, Cleo Burk; siblings, Janene Sasinouski, Steve Burk, Greg Burk, Mark Burk, Val Burk, Felicia Hawkins; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Fredrick , and a son, Ben.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 2, at the Ashton LDS Stake Center with Bishop Chuck Hansen officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Baxter Funeral Home, 717 Main Street, in Ashton, and Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the stake center prior to services. Interment will be in the Chester Cemetery.
