Dave
Warnke
Sep 21, 1952 — Aug 17, 2021
David Scott Warnke, 68, of Sugar City and formerly of Ashton, died August 17, 2021, of natural causes. He was born September 21, 1952, in Ashton, Idaho to Carl Herman and Betty LaRae Orme Warnke. He attended schools in Ashton and graduated from North Fremont High School.
Soon after graduating from high school he joined the US Air Force. He served honorably and was discharged in 1977.
Dave married Lawana Jean Doak on August 26, 1976, at Mesa Falls. Dave and Lawana's love was so strong. He was her rock and loved her very much. She will celebrate their 45th anniversary this month. She wants him to know how much she loved him and thank him for always being by her side.
Dave was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He was a very hard worker, had a love for mechanics and worked on everything, but he really enjoyed working on old farm equipment.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He and Lawana liked to take long drives. They called it "Red Rock Therapy". They liked to go to Southern Utah - Moab, Capital Reef, and any National Park in that area.
Dave was always one of the first people to show up when he knew someone was in need. He loved helping others. He got so much joy out of paying for random people's meals at restaurants. Dave and Lawana have been doing a Secret Santa every Christmas since 1989, choosing a few random families to surprise.
He is survived by his wife, Lawana of Sugar City; children, Jerrami (Riki) of Ashton and Mandy of Cheyenne, Wyoming; siblings, Kenny (Jonna) Warnke of Idaho Falls, Glenda Bagley of Rexburg, Dennis (Jan) Warnke and Kerry (Tina) Warnke all of Ashton, Lori (Barry) Johnson of Idaho Falls; and six grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; children, Herman, Jr., Denni Dawn, and D.J.; and sisters, Brenda Warnke and Lisa Van Blerkom.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lawana to keep the Secret Santa tradition going. Contributions can be mailed to Lawana at 188 N. 2100 E., Sugar City, ID 83448.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 23, at the Ashton 3rd Ward Chapel, 1313 North 3600 East, with Bishop Alan Baum officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Baxter Funeral Home, 717 Main Street, in Ashton, and Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.
