David
Pierce
Mar 29, 1957 — Jan 25, 2025
David Pierce, born March 29, 1957, passed away on January 25, 2025.
On January 25, 2025, David Pierce passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love. While his passing leaves a hole in many hearts, he would want to be remembered for his laughter, generosity, and the good times shared with friends and family.
David was a man of adventure, creativity, and boundless curiosity. In high school, he was an active member of the drama club, always entertaining those around him with his charm and humor. He carried this love of performance and storytelling throughout his life, delighting family and friends with his wit, crass jokes and vivid tales.
After graduating high school, David attended Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho. He went on to spend many years as a traveling salesman for the family business, Pinique Upholstery, based in Pocatello. His work allowed him to explore his beloved state and beyond, uncovering hidden treasures along the way. David had a particular passion for hot springs, often using books and clues to discover secluded spots. Armed with a tarp, he would fashion makeshift hot tubs out of hillside water sources, transforming the wilderness into his personal oasis.
David's love for adventure extended to his youth, where he found joy in white-water rafting and spending countless nights on rivers throughout Idaho. These experiences became cherished memories for his family, especially the overnights he shared with his daughter and stepdaughters. He also had a passion for hunting, foraging and living off the land. Ever unconventional, David would arrive at hunting camps with a string of pack goats instead of the usual horses or four-wheelers. These loyal and capable companions could navigate any terrain, often outshining traditional pack animals. One particularly mischievous billy goat became infamous for sneaking Budweiser sips and snatching cigarettes, adding to the laughter and stories David loved to share.
In the last twenty years of his life, David made his home in Island Park, Idaho, where he worked alongside his brother, Ray Pierce, at Valley View Excavation. He enjoyed the hands-on labor and took pride in his creative eye for detailed rock work, such as intricately designed driveways. In more recent years, many in Island Park knew David from the thrift store he ran in Last Chance, where he delighted in meeting new people and connecting with his community. To so many, he was unforgettable—not just for his humor but for his genuine spirit.
David had a passion for collecting things, especially rocks. His home was filled with stones and curiosities, each with its own story. He was fascinated by the world, always eager to find a new rock, pick a mushroom, or craft a wildflower bouquet. Recently, he had taken to making walking sticks, decorating them with pebbles and feathers he found on his adventures.
David also shared many adventures with his partner of 15 years and best friend, Faye Kennedy. Together, they explored Island Park joys, from floating the river to picking morel mushrooms, hosting gatherings, or simply enjoying a cold drink at their favorite local spots. Their bond was one of laughter and shared passions.
A voracious reader, David was rarely without a book in hand. Whether tucked into his back pocket or balanced on a dashboard, his books were a constant companion. His love for learning and discovery never waned, and he passed this passion for knowledge on to those around him.
Though his passing leaves a profound loss, David's memory will live on in every laugh, every story, and every friendship he left behind. His last wishes were to be cremated and have his ashes spread near a river. Plans are underway for a summer gathering by the river to celebrate his life, including a float trip to honor his love for the water. Details will be shared in due time.
David is survived by his daughter, Katie Pierce; his brother Ray Pierce; his nephew and his family; Brian, Kristen, Jacob and Bradley Pierce; his two stepdaughters; Mary & Sarah Walters. He also leaves behind a community of friends who were touched by his kindness, laughter and warmth. David is reunited in passing with his parents (Rose & Floyd), older brother (Al), his girlfriend (Faye) and other loved ones who have gone before him. David's unique spirit, creative mind, and love for nature and community made the world a better place. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
