Obituary

On June 10, 1934, in Wilford, Idaho, Marion Guy and Leora Mae Brower Cordingley were blessed with their first child, a little boy that they named Guy DeLane Cordingley. As tradition would have it in their family, his middle name seemed to fit him best. He was later joined by two other siblings, Leora Marge and Warren Kay.

The family moved to Marysville then Hugginsville before finally settling in Ashton. DeLane attended school in those communities and spent seven summers in Yellowstone Park. He graduated from North Fremont High School where he excelled in sports. He attended Ricks College on a football scholarship. After college, he returned home to help his dad on the farm.

He married Connie Robinson on January 23, 1957. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. To this blessed union three children would be born. Shane D., Shellie Dawn, and Kurt DeLane.

DeLane worked for the Forest Service for 17 ½ years. He always loved the woods. After working for the forest service he opened a small business in Ashton selling chain saws. His love of the forest would not allow him to settle into a city job, so he started logging and stayed involved in that interest the rest of his life.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a counselor in the bishopric, as bishop of the Ashton 4th Ward, and in several other callings. His favorite calling was as an officiator in the Idaho Falls Temple where he served alongside Connie for five years.

On March 13, 2013, DeLane was called home to serve again amongst those who had preceded him in death. Those include his parents, his sister, and beloved daughter Shellie.

He is survived by his wife Connie of Ashton; sons Shane (Kimberly) Cordingley of Layton, Utah, Kurt (Heather) Cordingley of Ashton; son-in-law John Herbst of Idaho Falls; brother Kay (Janet) Cordingley of Rexburg; 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 18, at the Ashton Stake Center,516 N. 2nd Street, with Bishop James Hawkes officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Baxter Funeral Home, 717 Main Street, in Ashton, and Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the stake center. Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery.
