Obituary

Reed DeLynn Murdoch, 88, of Ashton, Idaho went to be with our Heavenly Father on Friday, August 27, 2021, at the Homestead Assisted Living Center in St. Anthony. DeLynn was born May 31, 1933, to Reed Chase Murdoch and Ruth Grover Murdoch, in Ashton, Idaho.

DeLynn graduated from North Fremont High School in 1951. During his high school years, he was a football player and a boxer. He also boxed at Ricks College where he met Joyce Housley. When he saw Joyce, he told a friend he was going to marry that girl. They were married on June 25, 1952, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

DeLynn was drafted by the Army in 1953, during the Korean War. He was assigned to combat engineers and served with the 44th Infantry Division.

After receiving and honorable discharge and returning home, he worked for his father-in-law, Louis Housley, at his plumbing business in St. Anthony. DeLynn acquired his journeyman's plumbing license. He secured a job in Yellowstone National Park and the family moved to Gardiner, Montana. DeLynn eventually became supervisor of heat, light, water, and power for all of Yellowstone Park concessions.

In the early 1990's, DeLynn and Joyce built a home on the Ashton Hill. DeLynn resided there until about 2016, when he became a resident of Homestead.

DeLynn was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved his family and tried to do what was best for them. DeLynn and Joyce were married for 61 years. (Joyce passed away in 2013.) The couple enjoyed dancing, hunting, fishing, camping, ice skating, and many church activities with their family. They also enjoyed cross-country skiing and teaching dance lessons.

DeLynn was very devoted to his wife and took exceptionally good care of her during her final years.

DeLynn was raised as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a devoted church member for many years, and served as branch president. He often reached out a helping hand to his fellow church and community members.

He is survived by his five children, Steven Murdoch of Little Rock, Arkansas, Michael (Denise) Murdoch of Kennewick, Washington, Ken (Teresa) Murdoch of Laurin, Montana, James (LaVasha) Murdoch of Kittitas, Washington, Jolyn (Gary) Kawano of Powell, Wyoming; 27 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sister Gerrianne (Kaylen) Miskin; brothers-in-law, Gene Berger, Larry (Kathy) Housley, Richard (Julie) Housley, William (Donna) Forsberg; and sister-in-law, Barbara Housley.

DeLynn was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Thomas Murdoch; sister, Sharon Berger; daughter-in-law, Latona; sister-in-law, Colleen Forsberg; brother-in-law, Don Housley; and infant grandchild, Weston Kawano.
