Obituary

DeLynn E. Smith, 75, of Island Park, died May 7, 2015, at his home after a hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by family at his passing.

He was born August 23, 1939, in St. Anthony, Idaho to Edwin Othella and Verla Sadorus Smith. He attended schools in St. Anthony and graduated from South Fremont High School in 1957.

Shortly after graduating from high school he joined the United States Coast Guard. He served in the South Pacific in the Marshall Islands and on the U.S.S. Klamath. He was a Chief Petty Officer at the time of his honorable discharge.

He married Janet Catherine Dedrick on January 26, 1963, in Seattle, Washington. Three daughters were born to this union.

He was a computer technician for Burroughs Corporation and his work took him and his family to Washington, Illinois, Utah and Texas. After 35 years with Burroughs he retired and moved to Island Park where he resided until his death.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He enjoyed hiking, camping, boating, water-skiing, and taking long rides on his snowmachine. His greatest joy was playing with his grandchildren. He was a wonderful friend and made friends everywhere that he lived and worked. His greatest loves were his wife and family.

He is survived by his wife Janet of Island Park; children, Deidra (Brad) Fitzgerald of Elizabeth, Colorado, Kelly (Matt) Smith-Hansen of Windsor, Colorado, Dana (Daron) Little of Encampment, Wyoming; siblings, Merlin Smith of St. Anthony, Richard (Elaine) Smith of Island Park, Tamera (Keith) Barker of Pocatello; and five grandchildren, Zachary and Aly Beckwith and Cassidy, Riley and Josie Little. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 11, at the Island Park LDS Chapel. The family will receive friends Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Wilford Cemetery with military rites.
