Richard "Dick" John Heinz, was born on May 18, 1927, in El Monte, California, to John and Helen Heinz. He was the first of three sons. Dick grew up in Marysville, Idaho, where he enjoyed participating in local athletics such as football, boxing and basketball. Dick's team won the Stake Basketball Championship in 1950. When Dick wasn't reminiscing about the good ole' days, you could hear him playing his harmonica, which he learned while serving in the United States Navy, during World War II. Dick was proud of his country and would make sure every flag that was flying, was done so properly.

Dick married Barbara Nebeker August 10, 1948, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They had four children: Michael, Judy, and twins, Kory and Kim. They lived in Idaho and California for the 43 years of their married life before Barbara passed away.

Dick then came back to Idaho where he started dating Judy Murdoch in April, 1992. That summer he pulled his fifth-wheel trailer onto Judy's yard and said, "I am here to paint your house." That is exactly what he did and they were married on August 21, 1992, in the Idaho Falls Temple.

Dick quickly became a loving and adored grandpa, "Pa," to Judy's kids and grandchildren. Together Dick and Judy worked in the Latter-day Saint Temple. Dick loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and held many callings during his life. He joined the American Legion, after marrying Judy, and loved to participate in Memorial Day services, parades, and Veteran Funeral services.

Dick passed away peacefully March 24, 2019, while holding his wife's hand. During his last few days, Dick was surrounded by his family and was able to say his goodbyes.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 28, at the Ashton 3rd Ward Chapel, 1313 North 3600 East, with Bishop Curt Judy officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., both times at the church. Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery under the direction of Baxter Funeral Home. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 89, and the US Navy Honor Guard.
