Obituary

Eldon "Ode" Hill Kent, 97, of Ashton, died Sunday, May 24, 2015, at the Ashton Living Center of causes incident to age.

He was born April 5, 1918, in Ora, Idaho to Norman and Leona Hill Kent, the third of four children. He attended school in Ashton through the 8th grade and then went to work farming.

After farming for a time, he and his father bought Harry Woodburn Transfer and renamed the business Kent Transfer. They hauled coal in the winter and ice in the summer.

In 1942 Ode joined the U.S. Army. He served during World War II and fought in the battle at Normandy. He was honorable discharged at the end of the war.

After serving in the military he returned home to Ashton where he married Lucille Cordon on February 13, 1946. They made their home in Ashton where they raised three sons, Darris, Mike and Craig.

Ode continued working with his father until Norman died. At that time Ode's son, Craig joined him in the family business. Upon Craig's death in 1988, Kent Transfer was sold and Ode retired.

He enjoyed fishing with his friends Rusty and Ben. He was a regular at the coffee shop, twice a day was his routine and he enjoyed the friendships he made there.

He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities and spending time with them.

He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Dona (Wayne) Kent Ball, her children, Josh Kent, Jason Kent, Krista (Adam) Hale, Sierra Weingartner; great-grandsons, Nash and Knox Hale; son Mike (Althea Hornsby) Kent; grandchildren, Camelle Young, Chris Kent, Heath Kent and Chad Kent; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lucille, sons Craig and Darris; sisters Rula Blanchard, Norma Hedrick and a brother Gerald "Curly" Kent.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, at Baxter Funeral Home, 717 Main Street, in Ashton. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home prior to services. Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion and Idaho Honor Guard.
