Fay Matthews Harrigfeld, 85, of Ashton passed away peacefully Monday, April 20, 2015 at her home, surrounded by her 4 lovely daughters and favorite son. She was born January 11, 1930, the daughter of Byron and Hazel Matthews. She was the youngest of 7 children.
She grew up in Ashton and attended Ashton schools. She spent summers working at the Old Faithful Lodge and was one of the fastest sheet folders they had.
She met Hal Harrigfeld, while roller skating and they were married August 29, 1947 at the Little Chapel in the Pines in Macks Inn. They moved to their farm in Squirrel where they raised their 5 children. Fay and Hal farmed together for 42 years. She enjoyed driving grain truck in the fall and loved the harvest time of year. She loved working in her yard. She loved all the animals that she had through the years and they loved her and were loyal to her.
She spent many hours watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren participate in all their activities. In her younger years, Fay loved to bowl with her husband and friends. In her later years, she enjoyed going to and watching the Utah Jazz play basketball with Becky. She was a loyal fan to the end.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings.
She is survived by her 5 children, Deborah Holcomb (Tom), LaFay Oberhansley (Dennis), both of Idaho Falls. Becky Harrigfeld, Hal Harrigfeld (Karen) of Ashton and Gayle Copeland (Greg) of Stansbury Park, Utah, her 16 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren and Ellie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hal, her parents, her 3 brothers, Jim, Jack and Jeff, and her 3 sisters, Inez, Adelaide and Elynn.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2015 at the Ashton 4th Ward LDS Chapel, 1316 North 3600 East. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 to 7:30 and again Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 both times at the church. Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery under direction of Baxter Funeral Home.
