Obituary

Alton Gene Biorn, 88, of Ashton, died May 13, 2016, at his home of natural causes. He was born December 25, 1927, in Ashton to Wilford Clarence and Anna Whittle Biorn. He attended school in Ashton and graduated from Ashton High school.

After graduation, he joined the US Navy and served during World War II on the USS Tucson.

He married Leone Stoddard on December 10, 1947, in the Idaho Falls LDS temple. They made their home and raised their family in Marysville, east of Ashton.

Gene farmed with his father and worked at the Manwaring Cheese Factory for a number of years. He then went to work for the Fremont County Road and Bridge department for 37 years until his retirement. He was a hard worker and enjoyed his work. Work was his hobby whether it was at his job, or home working around the house and yard.

He enjoyed carving wooden bears and had many of them around his house and yard.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings. He and Leone served for a number of years in the Rexburg Temple where he enjoyed serving at the front desk.

He is survived by his wife, Leone of Ashton; children, David (Delsa) Biorn of Charleston, South Carolina, Kenneth (Lois) Biorn of St. Anthony, Linda (Brad) Ostermiller of St. Anthony, Craig (Michele) Biorn of Idaho Falls, Barbara (David) Beddes of Sugar City, Michael (Trenna) Biorn of Idaho Falls; siblings, Robert D. (Joan) Biorn of Rigby, Naomi (Abe) Rogers of Ashton, Don (Shirley) Biorn of Rigby, Joyce (the late David ) Glenn of Idaho Falls, Kathleen (David) Mattson of Rosemont, Colorado, Ina (Rex) Bowles of Hyrum, Utah, Mary (LaRon) Bingelli of Garland, Utah; 31 grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Andrew Biorn and two great-grandsons, Michael Davies and Johnathan Hansen.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17, at the Ashton 3rd Ward Chapel with Bishop Kurt Judy officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery under the direction of Baxter Funeral Home. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion and Idaho Honor Guard.
