Guy Ryan Thayne, age 73, of Teton, Idaho, formerly of Mountain Home, Utah, passed away May 20, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born October 3, 1944, in Roosevelt, Utah to Harry & Carrie Taylor Thayne. He grew up in Utah and Colorado with his 9 siblings. He graduated from high school in Craig, Colorado after which he served a two-year mission for the LDS Church in the Central States Mission. He returned and married his sweetheart, Joyce Lindsay on April 20, 1966, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They started a family and went on to have 5 children, he loved being a father! He also loved ranching and animals, especially his horses and dogs, and everything about the ranching lifestyle. Some of the other things he truly enjoyed were reading, studying the scriptures, dancing with his wife, and he taught himself to crochet to keep him busy while he couldn't be outside doing what he loved.
He drove school bus for Duchesne County School District for 24 years, during that time he also substitute taught and worked as a custodian in the Altamont Schools. He loved interacting with the children in those schools and made a positive impact in many of their lives. He volunteered as an EMT for the Upper Country Ambulance.
He also served as a Duchesne County Commissioner and he worked for the Utah Division of Wildlife. He loved that job and made some life long friends, he also loved the encounters he had with the wildlife. After retiring he and Joyce served a two-year CES Mission for the LDS Church in the Rapid City, South Dakota Mission.
He served in many capacities within the LDS Church, he was ordained to the Office of Seventy, Stake Sunday School Presidency, Bishopric Member, Bishop, High Councilman, and Temple Ordinance Worker in the Vernal, Utah Temple.
Some of his hobbies included; leatherwork, singing, cheese making, learning to play the piano by ear, gardening, story-telling and talking! His life centered around his family and his Savior and serving everyone that crossed his path. His love, integrity, strength, and spirit will never be forgotten!
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Lindsay Thayne, Teton, ID. His 5 children, Buffy (Tracy) Carroll, Rexburg, ID; Terrell Thayne, Mt. Emmons, UT; Misty (Dave) Reynolds, Moorcroft WY; Cassie (Brandon) Moat, Duchesne, UT; Destin (Brinn) Thayne, Wilford, ID. Honorary Children: Nathan (Lexi) Fuhriman, Wilford, ID, 23 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry & Carrie Thayne, his in-laws, James & Ruth Lindsay, his daughter in-law, Lorraine Condie Thayne, and 4 sisters.
The family would like to thank Solace hospice nurses, Gwen Jones, Lindsay Graham and all others that helped with his care.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at 11:00 AM at the Teton LDS chapel (44 West Main St. Teton, ID) There will be a viewing there beginning at 9:30 AM. Burial will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery (5644 W 3000 N Teton, ID).
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints General Missionary Fund.
