Obituary

Harlean Marguerite Boies Gaston, 83, of Ashton, died September 23, 2016, at the Ashton Living Center of natural causes. She was born September 14, 1933, in Dawson, Nebraska to Harland and Lillian Marguerite Oneth Boies.

She was raised in Emmetsburg, Iowa and graduated from high school there. She then attended the University of Iowa where she earned her BA degree in English in 1955.

She married Robert Gaston on June 19, 1955, in Charles City, Iowa. Bob was serving in the US Navy and for the next 26 years they lived all over the world as he was transferred from assignment to assignment. To this marriage were born three children, Valerie, Wendell and Ann Marie.

In 1977, Harlean earned her degree in dental hygiene and worked as Bob's dental hygienist in his practice in Hayden, Idaho. After several years in Hayden, they retired and moved to Ashton, Idaho to be near family.

Harlean was a devout Christian woman and loved Jesus. She was a member of the Berean Baptist Church in Ashton and served as the pianist for the church.

She was an amazing cook and seamstress. She enjoyed making doll clothes for her collection of dolls. She liked to play games, especially bridge. She loved her Yorkshire Terriers.

She is survived by her husband, Robert of Ashton; children, Valerie (Rob) Bourland of San Diego, California, Wendell (Barbara) Gaston of Squirrel, Idaho, Ann Marie (Tom) Larsen of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Janet Taylor of Auburn, Alabama: 8 grandchildren, Jill, Jacob, Jay, Kim, Molly, Philip, Matthew and Hannah; and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff and care givers at Ashton Living Center for their tender care.

Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Harlean to a charity of your choosing.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, at the Berean Baptist Church, 629 Main Street, in Ashton, with Pastor David Nichols officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday morning from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Squirrel Cemetery under the direction of Baxter Funeral Home.
