Obituary

Harry Niendorf Jr., of Driggs, died March 18, 2019, at his home of natural causes. He was born on September 11, 1923 in Santa Monica, California. He grew up in Lamont, Idaho.

He graduated from University High School in 1941, and was attending Santa Monica Junior College when World War II began. Harry return home to Lamont and enlisted in the United States Army in 1942. He was initially assigned to tank destroyer unit but transferred to the Army Air Corps where he successfully completed flight school and was assigned as a fighter pilot.

Harry married Lillie Belle Turley of Lakeland, Florida on January 1, 1946. The couple had three children. After the war, Harry stayed in the Air Force until he retired in 1963. After retirement from the Air Force he worked as a corporate pilot for the Bendix corporation.

Harry was preceded in death by his mother Hazel Wrenstead, his father Harry Niendorf Sr., and granddaughter Jennifer Nalley.

Harry is survived by his wife of 74 years, eldest son Harry Jay Niendorf (Theresa), daughter Nancy Nalley (Jack), son John Niendorf and grandchildren Andrew Niendorf (Melissa), Elizabeth Sichi (Anthony), Kai Niendorf, and Maiya Niendorf.

Harry retired from Bendix in 1985, and returned to Driggs, Idaho where he lived out the rest of his life. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and was governor of the fraternal flying organization – the QBs – Jackson Hole hangar. Harry felt there were no strangers, only friends he had not yet met.

Services will held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 25, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashton, Idaho.

Graveside services, with Military Rites, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at the Squirrel Cemetery.
