John "Jack" Steinman, 86, of Ashton, died December 7, 2015, at Madison Memorial Hospital of natural causes.
He was born March 13, 1929, in Wilford, Idaho to Rudolf and Venna Stewart Steinman. He attended schools in St. Anthony and Ashton. He was raised on the family farm south of Ashton.
He married Alma Roseborough on March 12, 1949, in St. Anthony. They raised their family of four children on the same farm where he was raised.
He enjoyed his work as a farmer. He raised potatoes, grain and hay. He also raised cattle and always liked working with them. As he worked and spent time around the farm, he always had a dog by his side. He was a hard worker and instilled a strong work ethic in his family.
He had his pilot license and enjoyed owning and flying his own airplane. He liked photography and making videos with his video camera.
He enjoyed fishing and especially liked to go goose hunting with his friends.
He is survived by his wife Alma of Ashton; daughter, Janet (Scott) Brinkopf of Littleton, Colorado; son, Rudy (Susan) Steinman of Ashton; siblings, Ted (Ann) Steinman of Idaho Falls, Betty Schwendiman of Rupert, Patsy (Tony) Costello of Tooele, Utah; 13 grandchildren, "knot-heads" and many great-grandchildren, "rotten brats".
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jerry Steinman and a daughter, Jacqueline Andersen.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 11, at the Ashton 1st Ward Chapel, 1320 North 3600 East, with Bishop Brian Loosli officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Baxter Funeral Home in Ashton and Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery.
