John Harvard Calonge, 76, of Idaho Falls, formerly of Ashton, died November 21, at his home of natural causes. He was born February 12, 1940, in St. Anthony, Idaho to Vern and Agnes McCormick Calonge.
He attended schools in Ashton and graduated from North Fremont High School in 1959. Shortly after high school he joined the National Guard and served his country honorably for a period of time.
After returning from the service, he worked as an engineer for the city of Las Vegas. He then moved back to Ashton and farmed for a number of years. In 1973 he was awarded the Coors Grower of the Year Award. In the mid 1980's he stopped farming and moved to Idaho Falls where he worked selling farm supplies.
He enjoyed the outdoors and liked to fish, hunt and spend time camping. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Kristy Wilson of Ashton, Carisa Gale of Murray, Utah, Christopher Calonge of Cheney, Washington; grandchildren, Kylie, Jeremy, Caleb, Jaedon and Nicc; great-grandchildren, Taelor, Ryder, Evelyn and Legacy; and a brother Don Calonge of Ashton.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, at Baxter Funeral Home, 717 Main Street, in Ashton. The family will receive friends Thursday for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Ashton Pineview Cemetery.
