Obituary

Jordon Stoddard of Egin, Idaho died March 26, 2024 at the age of 81, at Eastern Idaho Regional Center.  He was born to Blaine "Bill" Stoddard and Velma Stoddard on July 16,1942 at their home in Egin. At an early age he was intent on being big enough to do things like drive the tractor, be part of the harvesting and stacking of loose hay. Many stories were shared with family about this good part of his life.

Jordon attended Edmunds Grade School in Plano. He had learned to tell time before he attended first grade and was able to have his own watch.  Attending Sugar-Salem High School he joined FFA, he loved judging animals and went to state competition every year with his team. One year, they were not able to camp out and had to drive through due to weather. When their teacher became too tired to drive Jordon drove the school bus home. He was President during his Junior Year.  His Senior year they competed in Nationals, in Kansas City, MO.   Jordon drove his new car, taking the teacher and fellow contestants with him.

He dated VerLynn Burnside his senior year and they were engaged on her birthday in January and married in July 1960. They lived most of their married life in Egin, across the road from where he was born and raised.  With Dodie being born in 1961 and Breck in 1962 their family was complete.  Jordon started into carpentry with VerLynn's Dad in 1963 and a couple of years later he went on his own.   Jordon built many homes in the area and formed lasting friendships with the homeowners and sub-contractors, that were advocates of Jordon's superb workmanship.

Later years Jordon built Custom Doors and formed Jordon Stoddard Millwork.  Employees remained friends and have often stated that Jordon had made a profound difference in their lives. Jordon's doors went to Jackson Hole, Park City, Salt Lake, Big Fork, Montana and Hollywood California.  Again, much feedback of his true craftsmanship.

Jordon was elected to the Fremont County Commission in 2010 and served for 12 years.  When questions and issues arose, Jordon took pride in taking time to research to bring the best resolution possible to improve things in the county.  He enjoyed the employees of the county, had respect for them and the jobs that they did.  He spent time learning how all the different aspects of the county worked so that he could make good, informed decisions.

"Jordon loved Fremont County"

He was the foundation of his family.  He believed in the potential of his children and grandchildren and encouraged them in all their endeavors.  He instilled in them his love of work, and a strong work ethic.  Jordon was the go-to for all home repairs needed.  On the rare occasion when he could not fix it, or fix it by himself, he knew who to call for help needed.

He is survived by his wife, VerLynn; daughter, Dodie Waid; son, Breck Stoddard and Tracy Ray,  grandchildren; Ambrea and David Wright, Amanda and Michael Nash, Jake and Shaliece Zundel, Nick and Darci Davis; great-grandchildren; Kelley Tibbitts and Travis Heyrend, Kaidance Nash, Torie Wright, Payton Nash, Gracie Davis, Jordie Davis, Breely Zundel, Brock Zundel; four great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Jill Gardner and Zenda Blake.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Velma Stoddard; and son-in-law, Rodney Waid.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 3, at Flamm Funeral Home, 61 North 1st East in Rexburg.  The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., and Wednesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., both times at the funeral home.  Interment will be in the Parker Cemetery under the direction of Baxter Funeral Home.
