Obituary

Karen Dora Kerswell Hansen, 81, of Parker, Idaho passed away March 12, 2021.

She was born April 7, 1939, at Lorenzo, Idaho, the daughter of Arthur William and Almira Gladys McNeil Kerswell. She was the sixth child out of ten children. She attended elementary and high school in Rexburg, Idaho.

On July 7, 1956, she married Darwin Hansen in Rexburg. Later, she and Darwin, along with their little family, were sealed on April 28, 1965, in the Idaho Falls temple.

Karen was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as a counselor in the Primary, a Primary teacher, a Den Mother in the Cub Scouts, and as a visiting teacher for many years.

Karen worked as a cook in the Parker-Egin elementary school for 20 years. She loved working with her sister, Loretta Forbush and her daughter, Carma Abegglen, and especially enjoyed getting to know all the kids.

Karen enjoyed oil painting, quilting, keeping records of her family. She also liked going fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and camping with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Lorna (Rick) Abegglen of Wilford, Carma (Darrell) Abegglen of St. Anthony, Sherrie (Jim) Munns of Rexburg, Darin (Teresa) Hansen of Ashton; siblings, Jack (Sharon) Kerswell of Jerome, Terry Kerswell of Idaho Falls, Julia (Vaughn) Powell of Rexburg, Sandra (Russ) Bott of St. George; 23 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Almira Kerswell; husband, Darwin Hansen; son, Sidney Hansen; son-in-law, Dan Tews; siblings, Fern Harker, Keith Shaw, Loretta Forbush, Jessie Carter, Robert Shaw; and a great-grandson, Kayden Parker.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 16, at the Parker LDS Chapel, 132 N. Center, with Bishop Jace Yancey officiating. The family will receive family and friends Monday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., and Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., both times at the church. Interment will be in the Parker Cemetery under the direction of Baxter Funeral Home.
