Kenneth Smith Brower, age 90, passed away at his son's home in Springville, Utah, on April 22, 2017. Ken was born April 4, 1927 in Ashton, Idaho to Ernest "A" and Olive Ezila Smith Brower, the seventh of ten children. He was preceded in death by his parents and all siblings but his younger sister, Betty Lou.
Ken lived his entire life in Ashton, attending local schools. At 17 years of age he joined the Navy and deployed to the Pacific Theater during World War II. When the war ended, he returned home to finish high school and graduated in 1947.
Ken began dating Nola Hemming during their senior year in high school. They were married November 10, 1948 at the home of Nola's parents. They were later sealed in the Jordan River Temple on March 11, 1984. They raised two children, Chris and Tracey, on their farm south of Ashton. Ken was a respected master of his trade, a hard worker who faced many challenges, and a wonderful provider for his family.
Ken was a man of many lives. He endured Type I Diabetes and its complications for 72 years. He beat cancer twice, most recently at age 84. To live 90 years with his health challenges was nothing short of a miracle and a blessing to his family and others who received of his goodness.
Ken is survived by Nola, his cherished wife of 68 years; his son Chris; daughter and son-in law Tracey and Larry Larson; grandsons Timothy (Laura), Craig (Angela), and Kenneth; his sweet great-granddaughters Lily and Quinley; and his sister Betty Lou Albertson.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, at the Ashton LDS Tri-Ward Chapel, 1313 North 3600 East, north of the cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, April 28, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Baxter Funeral Home and again on Saturday, April 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery.
