Paul Kenneth "Ken" Garz, 85, of Ashton, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2018, at his home in Squirrel, Idaho, of natural causes.
He was born June 10, 1933, at his family homestead farm in Squirrel, to Paul and Lenora Reinemer Garz.
He grew up in Squirrel and graduated from Ashton High School. He served as Sergeant in the U.S. Army at Ft. Lewis, Wa. and Ft. Hood, Texas, during the Korean War, garnering sharp shooter awards. He also served in the Idaho National Guard.
He married Ines David on Oct. 12, 1958, at Hope Lutheran Church in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
He worked as a postman in Idaho Falls, farmed the family homestead in Squirrel, was the sexton of the Squirrel Cemetery, and a maintenance custodian at Ashton Memorial and the Ashton Senior Center. He was an "animal whisperer" who raised horses and adopted wild mustangs.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Joyce Goodwin. He is survived by his wife, Ines; four favorite children, David (Toni) Garz, Sandra (Bob) Cummings, Kenny (Tonya) Garz, Tawnya (Tracy) Garz-Brewer all of Ashton; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was a life-long member at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashton.
A viewing will held Saturday, Sept 1, from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashton. Funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services with military rights will follow at the Squirrel Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Alex Lissow. Local arrangements are under the direction of Baxter Funeral Home in Ashton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made in Ken's memory to the Squirrel Cemetery, PO Box 582, Ashton, ID 83420, to go towards purchasing a bench for visitors to the cemetery.
