Kennie
Worrell
Mar 18, 1931 — Apr 19, 2025
Joseph Kennie Worrell was born on March 18, 1931, to Joseph and Elva Worrell of Chester, Idaho. With so many other relatives named Joseph, he soon went by his middle name, Kennie. Growing up on the farm, he developed a love for the outdoors, nature, and family. Even though he learned hard work and responsibility, Kennie kept his youthful curiosity and mirth throughout his life.
On September 22, 1951, Kennie married the lovely Jean Chandler. They welcomed four children to their union. Two sons were born, David and Gary, before having a girl, Lola. They added another boy, William, to complete the family. Kennie and Jean were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 19, 1980.
Kennie explored several professions in agriculture, surveying, sales, and law enforcement. He enjoyed working as a deputy sheriff for Fremont County, where he was on dispatch the day the Teton Dam broke. Kennie also worked security at the Idaho Falls Temple.
Camping, fishing, photography, and family were the passions of his life. Kennie turned part of his property into a campground where the family reunion has been held since 1990. His friendly demeanor didn't end there. Friends and strangers have been invited to come pitch a tent and sit by the fire. Kennie loved to socialize and get to know others.
From patching something together, woodworking, or keeping the yard watered and mowed, Kennie was rarely found idle. His hands were busy with duct tape and bailing twine or a fishing pole. He loved having his grandchildren in tow in both work and play.
His dear wife of 68 years passed away on December 16, 2019. Life began to take its toll. When he couldn't get around safely on his own, Kennie moved in with the family of a grandson. After four months of care in Idaho Falls, he joined Jean in the loving embrace of our Savior on April 19, 2025.
Kennie was preceded in death by Joseph and Elva Worrel (parents), Jean Chandler Worrell (wife), Norman Worrell (brother), Oley Worrell (brother), VaNesa Jensen (granddaughter), Robby Worrell (nephew), and Russ Hiatt (grandson-in-law).
He is survived by Carma Worrell (sister) of Utah, David Worrell (son) of Idaho Falls (ID), Gary Worrell (son) of Powell (WY), Lola (daughter) and Larry Jensen (son-in-law) of Powell (WY), and William Worrell (son) of Chester (ID). There are 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren continuing his legacy.
You may not see Kennie sitting at the campfire, but his spirit can still be felt. As the friends and family of this wonderful man, let us carry his memory and love to those we interact with. Until we meet again, Kennie, farewell.
