LaMar W. Gunter, 69, of Ashton, died Monday, April 13, 2015, at his home of natural causes. He was born October 27, 1945, in Ashton, Idaho to Walter DeCatur "Kate" and Marjorie May Spencer Gunter.
He married Nancy Wiltse on June 21, 1975, in Warden, Washington. They had three children, Tim, Justin and Crystal. He served in the National Guard in the 116th Battalion in the Vietnam War. He served his country with honor.
He loved to hunt, fish, ride snowmachines and horses, and spend time outdoors. His idol was John Wayne, life on the open prairie and the ways of the old west.
He liked to tease and joke with friends and family and if he could get a rise from someone he was in the height of his glory.
He loved his grandchildren and the kisses, or sugar as he called it, that they would share with him.
He is survived by his wife Nancy of Ashton; children Crystal (Andy) Green of Ashton, Tim Gunter of Wendell, Justin Gunter of Idaho; sisters Sharon Winegar of Egin, Rella (Steve) Peabody of Brigham City, Utah, Donnetta Reum of Wasilla, Alaska; and five grandchildren with one more on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law Don Winegar and a son Brian Gunter.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 16 at the Ashton 3rd Ward Chapel, 1313 North 3600 East, with Bishop Gary Marsden officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Baxter Funeral Home in Ashton, and Thursday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.
Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion and Idaho Honor Guard.
