Obituary

Marilyn Fernelius, 87, of Island Park, Idaho, passed peacefully to meet her Lord on January 26, 2022. Marilyn was born on August 24, 1934, in Benjamin, Utah, to Art and Delpha Cahoon Mendenhall. She is reunited with her husband, Ron, who passed away in 2011. Their six children, with their spouses included:: K Neil "Korky" (Kathy) Fernelius of Rigby, Idaho, Christine "Teena" (Jerry, deceased) Porter of Island Park, Bradley Fernelius (deceased), Sheryl (Jeff) Engler of Viola, Idaho, Veronica (Bob) Erickson of Kendalville, Indiana, Steve (Katie) Fernelius of Island Park.

Marilyn loved family and being a mother. She was a foster mother for twenty-two years. Many foster children appreciated her and spoke of her Christian kindness and generosity in helping them. She loved and appreciated everyone she met and saw the good in everyone.

Spending thirty years of her life in Missoula, she volunteered many hours in various ways in the community. In 1991, she received the Montana State Developmental Disabilities award for her work serving as executive director for Special Citizens Camp (Region 5 Camp, Camp Challenge).

Later, she and her family moved to Island Park, Idaho and spent thirty years there.

Being active in politics and serving in her church also kept her quite busy. She enjoyed serving as a ward and stake Relief Society President, seminary teacher, Girl's Camp leader, and Cub Master in the Boy Scouts.

Her grandchildren loved her because she was the FUN Grandma and always would play games with them and the candy flowed freely! She was also an excellent seamstress and sewed overall aprons for all of her family.

She was a grand woman and loved by so many. She will be deeply missed!

Her funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Island Park, Idaho. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Springville, Utah.
