Obituary

Marion Louise Rice was born in Marysville, Idaho on January 4, 1919, to Lawrence and Mae Moore. She grew up in Ashton and attended the public schools there. She graduated with honors in Business Administration from the University of Idaho in 1940. Following graduation, she returned to Ashton and worked as a clerk for the Fall River REA.

During World War II she assisted the war efforts at Luke Field Air Force Base near Phoenix, Arizona – first at the Base Hospital and later in the Civilian Personnel Office. While there she met a young glider pilot, Jack Rice. They were married in July of 1945.

Marion and Jack returned to Ashton in 1950. Together they owned and operated, over the next 28 years, three different grocery stores. She also served as a clerk for the U.S. Forest Service from 1963 to 1977.

In retirement she and Jack enjoyed many winters in Mexico and Arizona.

Marion passed away peacefully at her home on May 31, 2020. She was 101 years old, and was preceded in death by her parents, brother Donald, sister Ardath, and husband Jack. She is survived by sons Michael and Jack, together with five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Ashton Community United Methodist Church, Chapter AS of PEO, and Henrietta Chapter 21, Order of Eastern Star.
