Marva Egbert
Rich
Sep 7, 1926 — Jun 3, 2022
Marva Egbert Rich passed peacefully in her sleep from this life June 3, 2022. She was born September 7, 1926 to Hollis Russ and Marie Egbert. She was born at home with Dr. Hargis attending. Her father farmed and raised livestock and Marva helped by herding cows tending to chickens and trapping squirrels. She attended school in Ashton with her father driving the horses that pulled the school sleigh in the winter. She loved school and learning and enjoyed Greentimber dances.
She met her husband Lowell Rich of St. Charles, Idaho in the potato field where she was working picking up potatoes for 1 cent a basket full. Marva graduated from High School in 1944, and married that fall in the Logan Temple. After supporting the war effort working at Hill Airforce Base, Lowell & Marva bought a farm in Ashton. Hard work and frugality made a living for their family.
Their four children Marlow, Thayne, GayeAnn and Wendell all learned the art of work on the farm. Marva was honored to be chosen as "farm wife of the year" by the Farm Bureau in 1987. Marva had many talents: painting, sewing, quilting, writing poetry and music. She was chairman of the 24th of July float committee in Ashton 1st Ward for many years. She designed and build award winning floats. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings in the Primary and Young Women's Organizations both at the local and stake level. She loved doing road shows for the ward mutual. She designed sets, music, and costumes. She could make them all! She was a dedicated genealogist and loved searching out her ancestors. She was an active member of the DUP and was instrumental in the installation of the monument to valley pioneers located near the Ashton Cemetery.
As life slowed down, Lowell and Marva enjoyed St. George, UT and Sugar City in the winter. A few years after Lowell's passing she moved to the Homestead in Rexburg. At Homestead she was an eager participant in so many activities. Her family sincerely appreciated the Homestead workers who were like family to her. They provided her with meaningful things to do, social events, travel activities and loving care for four years. She will be greatly missed, but we celebrate the birth of a bright angel.
She is survived by her sister Carol Murri, and her 4 children, Marlow Egbert Rich (Jann), Lowell Thayne Rich (Linda), Gaye Ann Ercanbrack (Scott) and Wendell Joseph RIch. Marva has 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Sat. June 11, 2022 at 12:00pm in the Ashton 4th Ward Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m., at the chapel prior to services. She will be laid to rest in the Pineview Cemetery, in Ashton, Idaho.
