Obituary

On September 8, 2016 Mary Joan Phillips Hill of Tetonia, passed away after a brief hospital stay.

Mary was born December 12, 1925 in Clawson, ID to Jedediah and Mary Fredricka Phillips, the third of four children. She was raised on the family homestead near Spring Creek with brothers, Herb and Grant and sister, Helen.

Mary attended schools in Teton Valley graduating from Teton High, then went to Ricks College and eventually graduating from BYU with a teaching degree.

She married Ralph Henry Hill on April 17, 1948 and was sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in 1949. Ralph and Mary had three children Scott (deceased), Trenna and Cody.

Mary started her teaching career in Felt, later teaching at Lamont, Tetonia and the Jr. High in Driggs.
She counseled many students during her career, most who remember her fondly.

Music was an important part of Mary's life, when young it was a main form of entertainment for her and her siblings. She was ward chorister for many years and helped with musical numbers at school.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Ralph and son Scott. Her parents Jed and Freda and all three of her siblings, Herb Phillips, Helen Phillips Bartschi and Grant Phillips.

Survivors include her two children Trenna Butler (Mike) of Burley, ID and Cody Hill (Teri) of Tetonia, ID.
Three grandchildren, Amanda Crump, Jody Butler and Victoria Hill. As well as 9 children who called her Grandma Great.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 13, at the Tetonia LDS Chapel. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:30 TO 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. both times at the church. Interment will be in the Cache-Clawson Cemetery under the direction of Baxter Funeral Home. Condolences can be sent online to the family at www.baxterfh.com.

In lieu of flowers it is suggested you donate in her memory to leukemia cancer research, the humane society or the Idaho Food Bank.
