Obituary

On Friday June 21, 2013, Mike Rasmussen, 61 was fatally injured on Highway 20, in Ashton, Idaho
Michael Lynn Rasmussen was born November 9, 1951 in Payson, Utah to Oran Kay and Ila Jeanne Rasmussen. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel and Aaron Rasmussen, and in 1989 his son, Michael Reynolds.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Rasmussen, a daughter, Amanda England, of Hailey, Idaho and 3 children from a previous marriage, Daniel Rasmussen, of Seattle, Washington, Jennifer Likeness, and Mike's grandchildren Ethan, Brittney, Braden and Zak of Inkom, Idaho, and Shayla Rasmussen, of Seattle Washington; a brother, John Kay (Karen) Rasmussen of Preston and a sister Sally (Jack) Fangsrud of Battleground, Washington.

Mike grew up in Island Park, Idaho where he spent his youth among extended family from Utah and Montana. He graduated from North Fremont High School in 1970, where he played lead trumpet in the high school band. His love of the trumpet and motorcycles continued throughout his life. He supported his love of his Honda 50 by his work in various areas in Island Park. He became extremely skilled at everything he touched.

In 1986, Mike met the love of his life and soul mate Carol Reynolds at a 4th of July picnic at the Snake River Cove. It was the beginning of a life-long friendship and never ending love affair. They married October 18, 1986 and began their life together in a home west of Ashton. Mike loved and helped Carol's children, Michael and Amanda. In April of 1987, Performance Sports Inc was created, a goal accomplished, and a lifetime dream manifested in success. Mike was a well-respected Polaris dealer, whose ethics and honesty were never questioned. Performance Sports was supported from the Montana border to Salt Lake City, Utah. Mikes reputation as a diagnostic expert in small motors was unparalleled. He was featured in SnowWest magazine as a high mountain snowmobile set up expert.

They continued in business for 22 years until they decided to sell in 2008. In true Rasmussen style, sitting still did not work, so he built a shop and started a new passion of restoring various types of motor vehicles. His talent for what he loved is evident in all of his work. He documented his projects with detailed notes, trailing from his kitchen, to his shop.

After retirement, Mike tenderly loved and cared for his wife Carol, Bella his dog, and his home. Mike loved his children and was very proud of their accomplishments. He attended his grandson Ethan's debates in Rexburg, helped his grandson Braden catch his first trout, loved his beautiful granddaughter Brittney and his little buddy Zak.
