Mona Rae
Amen
Jul 20, 1935 — Jul 17, 2025
Mona Rae Amen passed away on July 17, 2025, at the Ashton Living Center, just three days prior to her 90th birthday. She was born July 20, 1935, in St. Anthony, Idaho, she was the daughter of Vearold and Marie Miller Martindale. She lived her entire life in Ashton where she attended Ashton Elementary and graduated from North Fremont School.
On June 10, 1953, she married John "Jack" Henry Amen at the Methodist Church in Ashton. They had two children, Leslie and Brad. She was a stay at home mom most of the time, and helped her husband during harvest, hauling grain at their farm in Squirrel.
Jack and Mona Rae loved to go camping, especially at their camp spot on Conant Creek where she created countless memories for her family. Some of her greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her family and never forgot a birthday, a card and birthday money or a gift were always in the mail for all the kids. She also loved her home, in the summer you could find her tending her beautiful flower gardens in her yard. She lived there for over 70 years. She enjoyed collecting antiques and seasonal decorations, and scoured all the local yard sales and the Flea Market. She also treasured her many beloved pet poodles, especially Missy. She was a member of the Ashton Christian Fellowship.
Mona Rae also enjoyed traveling and one of the highlights of her life was a trip to Hawaii with friends. She always wanted to make a return trip there, but it never worked out. She also enjoyed trips to Maryland, Georgia, and Oregon visiting friends and family. Brad and Joni were able to take her to Arizona for a few months during the winter and they will treasure the fun memories.
Mona Rae's greatest legacy was her unwavering dedication to her family. She was an independent lady and always insisted on taking care of her family and herself. She bravely cared for her husband, Jack, for 11 years during his illness of "The Long Goodbye" as they call dementia. Jack died on March 22, 2000.
She is survived by her two children, Leslie (Roy) Summers from Eugene, Oregon, and Brad (Joni) Amen from Ashton; five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; and her brother, Leon (Lila) Martindale.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff of the Ashton Living Center for making Mona Rae's final days comfortable and happy. The care was wonderful and she often told us how well everyone treated her. She loved you all!
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 21, 2025, at the Pineview Cemetery in Ashton with Pastor Sean Maupin from the Ashton Christian Fellowship officiating.
