Obituary

Noel Arlie Strawn went quietly and peacefully home to his Lord Jesus, at his home and the home of his son Ken, in Ashton, on October 14, 2014. Cause of death was kidney failure from lymphoma.

He was born to his parents, James Pharaoh and Beulah Strawn on January 5, 1922, in Atoka, Oklahoma. He was the oldest of seven children.

In 1932, his father died of TB and Noel was sent to a TB hospital for a year. From there he went to a military school until he joined the CCC for a year.

In 1942, he enlisted in the US Navy during World War II, and served six years on four ships, the USS Bunker Hill, the USS Lexington, the USS Manila Bay and the USS Enterprise. During his service to our country he received many medals, ribbons, and commendations. He was honorably discharged in May 1948.

During his time of service in the military, he met and married the love of his life, Lydia Ellen Ingram. They enjoyed 68 years of marriage before she passed away in May of 2011. They had two sons, Noel Allen of West Linn, Oregon, now deceased, and Kenneth Ray (Linda) of Ashton.

After his time in the military he attended and graduated from the Ingles baking school in Portland, Oregon. He worked as a baker until 1950 when he went to work for Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill. In 1969, he attended and graduated from paper school where be became a journeyman pipe fitter. He retired from the mill in 1982. He and his family settled in a small country town of Willamette, Oregon and lived happily there until Noel and Lydia moved to Ashton to live with their son until their passing.

Noel enjoyed many hobbies including fishing, hunting, golfing, landscaping and gardening. Most of all he enjoyed his relationship with his savior, Jesus Christ.

He is survived by sisters Doris Foreman and Irene Edson; half-sister Freda Barrett and a half-brother Dennis Strawn, all of Texas; his son Ken (Linda) Strawn of Ashton; 4 grandchildren, Tami Strawn, Keith (Dana) Strawn, Lance (Shelly) Strawn, Jason (Stephanie) Strawn; and 8 great-grandchildren Ashley, Austin, Derick, Stephanie, Heather, Kenny, Brendan and Faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lydia Ellen, brothers Ed and Carl Strawn, son Noel Allen Strawn, and great-grandson Austin.

He was such a joy to be around and will be greatly missed.
