Obituary

Howard Paul Myers, 75, died Wednesday, July 4, 2018, in Surprise, Arizona, after a long battle with cancer. He was under the care of the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona and Hospice of the Valley in Surprise.

Paul was born December 29, 1942 in St. Anthony, Idaho to Glen Myers and Nina Hillam Myers. He was the oldest of 7 children. He grew up in Ashton, Idaho and graduated from North Fremont High School in 1961. Paul's love for hunting and fishing and anything outdoors, led him to employment with the Idaho Fish and Game Department. He spent happy years working at State Fish Hatcheries throughout Idaho. He participated in conservation projects for fish, deer, and moose relocation projects.

While working at the Hayspur Fish Hatchery, he met Elaine Cloughton, a resident of Hailey, Idaho. They were married in the Baptist church in Hailey, Idaho, on December 7, 1968. Paul and Elaine would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in December. They were blessed with 4 children. A daughter, Margaret, died at birth in Hailey. Three sons then joined their family; William Glen "Bud" Myers, Michael Paul Myers, and Timothy James Myers.

He was a very patriotic man and believed strongly in Freedom, God, and Country. As a member of the 116th Engineer Battalion of the Idaho National Guard for 17 ½ years, Paul was activated for the Berlin Crisis and spent 1962 at Fort Lewis, Washington. He attended NCO School and was trained to be an equipment operator at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

In 1987 the family moved to Bagdad, Arizona for Paul's employment with Cyprus Mining. Paul retired in 2008 after 21 years as an equipment operator in the mining industry. Elaine and Paul chose to remain in Bagdad following retirement to spend time enjoying retirement and their grandchildren.

Paul enjoyed living in Arizona in the desert. He loved the blooming desert flowers.

Paul is survived by his wife Elaine, sons Bud (Rayann), Michael, and Tim (Jipsie) of Bagdad, Arizona; mother Nina Myers of Idaho Falls; Idaho; brothers Brent (Linda) of Meridian, Idaho, Ron (Lorraine) of Soda Springs, Idaho, sisters Marie (Doug) Hadley of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Kathy (Mark) Sanders of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Joyce Bayles of Franklin, Idaho, Darla (Don) Romrell of Sugar City, Idaho.
