Obituary

A. Pernella "Penny" Anderson, 90, of Ashton, passed peacefully from this life on August 10, 2018, at 8:29 p.m., surrounded by friends. She was born January 18, 1928, to Arthur Malcom Anderson and Velma Edna King Anderson. She had an older brother, Arthur Leland Anderson.

Penny was raised in the Ashton–Squirrel area. She attended school in Idaho Falls and graduated from high school there. She then attended the University of Utah where she earned her Pre-Med Degree. She then moved to California and attended UCLA and earned her Certificate in Physical Therapy. While at the University of Utah she was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority.

After graduating from UCLA, Penny stayed in Los Angeles and with her business partner, Betty Burton, started and ran a very successful physical therapy practice, Village Physical Therapy. In the early 1980's, she sold her practice and moved back to Ashton to help her parents run Aspen Acres Golf Course and RV Park, which was started in 1965. Penny managed Aspen Acres from 1983 until retiring in 2002.

In 2002, Penny moved to Idaho Falls to Fairwinds Sand Creek Assisted Living Community and cared for her mother until her mother's passing in 2008. In 2009, Penny moved to the Ashton Living Center where she has resided until her passing.

Penny was a member of First Christian Church in Idaho Falls and Laguna Woods. Penny was a Fifty Year Member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Penny is survived by her niece, Nancy L. Pierce of Blair, NE; grandnieces, Kathryn L.(Wiggy) Greacen of Mesa, AZ, Erica S. (Mark) Bruner of Blair; grandnephews, Sean S. Cazier of St. Anthony, ID, and William G. Borger of Ontario, OR; great-grandnephew, Clayton Heymann of Elkhorn, NE; great-grandniece, Serena R. Desiderio of Mesa, AZ; and her long-time friend and business partner, Betty Burton.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister-in-law, a niece, and a nephew Leland Francis Anderson.

Memorial contributions can be made in Penny's name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America at their website.

Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15, at Baxter Funeral Home, 717 Main Street, in Ashton. A visitation will start at 5:30 p.m. prior to services. Following services, light refreshments will be served.
