Philip C. Berolzheimer, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Chester, ID on August 19, 2024. Philip leaves behind a legacy of leadership, love, and lasting contributions to his family, community, and industry. Born into a lineage of entrepreneurs who revolutionized the pencil and pencil slat industries, Philip carried forward the family tradition with dedication and innovation.

Philip was born in Oakland, CA on December 20, 1934, and raised in Stockton, CA. He attended Prep School at the Cate School in Carpinteria, CA, and graduated from Harvard University with a degree in Geology in 1957. He later completed the Harvard Business School, PMD Program to strengthen his business skills. He served in the United States Army as a cartographer and was stationed in Japan. During his time in Japan, he proposed to Anne Watkin, his college sweetheart, who would become his lifelong partner and the mother of his three children, with whom he shared a loving and devoted marriage for 65 years.

Philip's early adult years were marked by a love for sailing, jazz music, snow skiing and adventure. His passion for life was evident in everything he did. One of his favorite activities was the family's yearly Christmas holiday gathering on Little St. Simons Island, GA.

In 1963, Philip joined the board of the family business California Cedar Products Company (Cal Cedar). In 1970, he joined Cal Cedar and his leadership within the company grew as over time he served as VP of Sales, President from 1980 to 2000, and finally Chairman of the Board from 1996. Philip was a founding partner of P&M Cedar Products, Inc., and later Duraflame Inc. Philip served as President and Chairman of Duraflame from 1982 to 2004, growing the business from a novel concept to an internationally recognized consumer goods Brand.

His business achievements were matched by his commitment to his community in Stockton, CA, where he served on the Board of Directors of The Haggin Museum, including a time as Chairman. Philip was also a long-time member of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Stockton.
Philip's love for fly fishing was well known, and in his later years, he dedicated more time to this passion, often finding solace and joy on the water at Fall River Springs Ranch in Idaho. His deep appreciation for nature and the outdoors reflected the way he lived his life—full of enthusiasm, curiosity, and a relentless pursuit of what he loved.

Philip C. Berolzheimer's life was a testament to the power of perseverance, innovation, and love. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

In addition to his wife, Anne, Philip is survived by his three children, Charles, Parke and Caroline, five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren who will continue to honor his memory and carry forward his legacy.
