Curtis Redge Smith, 74, of Ashton, died June 21, 2021, at his home surrounded by family. Redge was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho on December 6, 1946. He grew up in Ashton where he attended school and graduated from North Fremont High School.
Redge worked for the Forest Service after graduating and joined the Army National Guard. He attended Fort Ord, California for basic training and then to Fort Leonardwood, Missouri for schooling. He then moved to Sacramento, California and worked with his brother Neil as an ironworker while he was also in the Air Force Reserves. He moved back to Ashton in 1967, where he helped his Uncle John with the harvest, and then spent the winter in Evanston, Wyoming with Neil doing ironwork.
Moving back to Ashton and while working on the Weaver Ranch in Squirrel Meadows, Redge married Margo Marotz on May 2, 1970 in Island Park. On May 2, 1979, Redge and Margo were sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Redge was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served in many different callings over the years.
He was very family oriented and always enjoyed getting everyone together for Sunday dinner. Redge enjoyed hunting, skiing, and riding a good horse in the mountains.
He is survived by his wife, Margo, of Ashton; sons, Dak Smith, Ky (Cherie) Smith, Shay (Michele) Smith, all of Ashton, Jake (Ashley) Smith of Idaho Falls; foster son, Kalani (Angie) Mago of Rigby; brother, Neil (Kathy) Smith of Lancaster, California; fourteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gordon Earl Smith; and a sister, Beverly Jean Goulding.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 25, at the Ashton 3rd Ward Chapel, 1313 North 3600 East, with Bishop Alan O. Baum officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Baxter Funeral Home and Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery.
