Obituary

Richard Ivan Anderson, 75, of Ashton, died September 7, 2016, at his home of natural causes. He was born May 1, 1941, in Driggs, Idaho to Lee Axel and Henriatta Stranger Anderson. He attended schools in Ashton and graduated from North Fremont High School.

Shortly after graduating from high school, Richard enlisted in the US Navy. For 20 years he served as a cook in the bakery on the different ships that he was assigned to. He retired from active duty in the Navy in August of 1980. He then served an additional 10 years in the Navy Reserves, retiring with 30 years of service in 1990. He was a member of the American Legion and served on the burial detail for many years.

After retiring from the Navy, Richard worked for a number of years as a crossing guard at Ashton Elementary. He also worked in the spring and fall for Reinke Grain Company.

He was a gun enthusiast and enjoyed target shooting. During the summer months he would practice his shooting daily. He enjoyed hunting and had an old Morgan horse, Tito, that he hunted with.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ashton.

He is survived by his siblings, Betty (Carl) Hobbs of Island Park, Bill (Bernice) Stranger of Ashton, Oscar (Susan) Anderson of Nevada and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Jimmy Anderson, MaryAnn Procter and Laura Hatch.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 14, at Baxter Funeral Home in Ashton. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home prior to services. Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery with military rites provided by the American Legion. Condolences may be sent online to the family at www.baxterfh.com.
