Robert "Bob" Parley Galloway, 75, of Ashton, passed away peacefully January 14, 2018, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He was born November 4, 1942, in Montpelier, Idaho to Richard Irvine and Fern Kunz Galloway, the second of eight children. He attended a one room school house in Bern, Idaho and graduated from Bear Lake High School in 1961.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served an honorable mission in the Texas Mission. He had a testimony of his Savior, Jesus Christ, and served and helped many people during his life. He felt home teaching was important and served faithfully in this calling until no longer able.
He married Donna Rae Barton on September 10, 1965 in Kaysville, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on April 20, 1974. This union was blessed with two children, a daughter Donetta and a son Lyle. Bob and Donna would spend 52 years together.
Robert was a very hard worker. He worked for Union Pacific as a switchman-brakeman for a number of years. He enjoyed this job until he lost the sight in one eye and was unable to work anymore. He had a firewood business and loved working in the timber and outdoors. He taught his children the value of hard work. He was a talented mechanic and was always up for a challenge. He could solve most any problem.
He loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed playing checkers, marbles and dominoes with his grandchildren. He loved the "little people". He was proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved watching them grow. They were his greatest treasure and joy in life. In his younger days he loved to water-ski and go boating.
He is survived by his wife Donna of Ashton; children, Donetta (Clair) Jackson of Williston, North Dakota, Lyle (Shauna) Galloway of Ashton; siblings, Richard (Myrna) Galloway and Ronald (JoAnn) Galloway of Afton, Wyoming, Ralph (Elaine) Galloway of Bern, Rodney Galloway of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Karla (Richard) Webb of Salt Lake City, Arline (Dana) Devlin of Boise; a brother-in-law Weldon Clark of Freedom, Wyoming; his grandchildren, Derek (Katie) Jackson, Devin (Kaylynn) Jackson, Carlene (Blake) Sewell, Dillon (Colleen) Galloway, Courteney (Colter) Cannon, Brittaney (Charlie) Underwood, Paxston (Kegan) Hughes, Megan (Hayden) Ott and Austin Galloway. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren with two more on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Elizabeth Clark and a sister-in-law JoAnn Galloway.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 19, at the Ashton 1st Ward Chapel, 1313 North 3600 East, with Bishop Brian Loosli officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Baxter Funeral Home in Ashton, and Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery.
