Obituary

Robert Stanley Toenjes, D.D.S., 84, of Palo Cedro, California, died Sunday, September 7, 2014, in St. Anthony, Idaho.

He was born April 13, 1930 in Los Angeles, CA to Frederick and Hilda Williamson Toenjes. His father was killed as a fireman trying to save a family caught in a flood. His mother remarried and they moved to Montgomery Creek, California.

He graduated from Shasta High School in 1949 and then attended Shasta College, Chico State University and graduated from the University of Pacific's College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1957, earning his D.D.S. After graduating he moved to Redding, California to practice dentistry for the next 43 years.

He was married to Donna Toenjes and they had a daughter Renee. He and Donna were later divorced. He met Bertien Adams and they were married on January 18, 1964.

He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Scoutmaster, bishop of the Redding 3rd Ward and the Palo Cedro Ward, as well as many other callings.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Republican Party, Cattleman's Association, American Dental Association, and the Northern California Dental Society.

He enjoyed farming, gardening, gold mining and fishing.

He is survived by his daughter, Renee Clifton of California; his son Dr. John R.F. (Paula) Toenjes of Ashton; brother Don (Virginia) Toenjes of Orland, California and a half-brother Zedrick Kessler of Alaska; and 8 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Bertien Toenjes.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, at the Palo Cedro LDS Chapel, 21912 Plaza Drive, Palo Cedro, CA 96073. The family will receive friends Saturday from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Lawncrest Cemetery.
