On a beautiful spring evening, after a long and eventful life, Mom died peacefully at home, April 22, 2018, at the age of 90.
On June 30, 1927 in Webster City, Iowa, Roberta Madsen Lenz, was born to RP and Zora Madsen, and her sister, Dorothy Madsen (Aunt Dottie) Bergman. The family moved to their beloved home on Katy Hill in Moline, Illinois during the Great Depression. In Moline adventures were many including swimming in the Mississippi River and having the run of the John Deere Experimental Farm where RP worked.
A lifelong Cubs fan, Roberta moved to Chicago as a young woman. There she worked in sales while enjoying seats behind first base at Wrigley Field, classes at Northwestern University, and her apartment on Michigan Avenue.
Little did Roberta know that a trip to visit Aunt Dottie, who had eloped with an Idaho farm boy, would dramatically change the course of her life. Giving up the bustle of Chicago for the beauty of Idaho, Roberta married her own farm boy, Lyle Oscar Lenz, in 1949. Together they raised their four children: Nola, Evan, Clark [Denise], and Carol while dry farming in Squirrel.
Roberta served the Ashton community as a 4-H leader, Fremont County Fair Board member, election judge, Project Linus ambassador, Hess Museum, and Visitor's Center volunteer. She shared her love of reading by serving as a literacy tutor and as an aide in Miss Barbara's classroom at Ashton Elementary.
As a family we would like to say "Thank You" to the best neighbors in Ashton who looked after Mom for so many years; "Thank You" to all of the Thursday bridge ladies who challenged Mom and helped to keep her wicked sharp; "Thank you" to the Ashton Red Hat Ladies who participate in Mom's passion for knitting by providing hand-made blankets to each camper at Camp Magical Moments; and a final "Thank you" to her family and friends near and far who brought her so much joy.
At Mom's request, no service will be held. Memorials in her name may be sent to Camp Magical Moments, PO Box 12, Swan Valley, ID 83449.
