Obituary

Sharon Jean Murdoch Berger, 77, of Ashton, died June 27, 2013, at her home of natural causes. She was born April 7, 1936, in Ashton, Idaho to Reed Chase and Ruth Grover Murdoch.

She attended school in Ashton and graduated from North Fremont High School. After high school she attended Ricks College.

She married Gene Raymond Berger on February 13, 1959, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived and raised in their family in Ammon, Rexburg, Salem, Oregon, and Heyburn. They retired to Ashton in 1995.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was an accomplished organist and served as the ward organist in many different wards. She served as organist in the Rexburg Temple. She and Gene served a mission in the Nauvoo Mission from 2005 - 2007. While serving in Nauvoo she accompanied the different performing groups.

She taught piano lessons for many years in her home. She also was the accompanist for the North Fremont Choirs for several years.

She enjoyed needlework, and other handiwork. She made homemade chocolates and was a wonderful cook. She was well read and always enjoyed a good book. She loved spending time with her family and instilled in them her love of music. Some of their most cherished memories are of spending time singing together around the piano.

She is survived by her husband Gene of Ashton; children Sandra (Garth) Hamblin of Wrangell, Alaska, Kim (Ron) Lindstrom of Soda Springs, Jeannie (Marc) Nix of Burley, Jacque (Jeff) Hunt of Heyburn, William (Kim) Berger of Rigby; siblings DeLynn (Joyce) Murdoch of Ashton, Gerrianne (Kaylen) Miskin of Rigby; 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Thomas Murdoch, and a grandson Jonathon Hamblin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2, at the Ashton LDS Stake Center, 516 North 2nd Street, with Bishop Craig Hammond officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Baxter Funeral Home, 717 Main Street, in Ashton, and Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the stake center prior to services. Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Sharon.
