Obituary

Stanley Miller Clark, 88, of Ashton died February 9, 2018 in his sleep. He was born on April 20, 1929 at Twin Groves, Idaho at the home of his Grandmother Miller. His parents were Stanley Albert Clark and Julia Etta Miller Clark.

His childhood was spent on the family farm southwest of Ashton. While in grade school in Ashton at the age of 12 he was hired by the school district to drive the horse-drawn "school bus" picking up 20 students every day. This was something he was very proud of. He graduated from Ashton High School in 1947. While in high school he played football and basketball.

He married Joyce Reynolds in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 22, 1948. Together they farmed and ranched southwest of Ashton. They raised their family giving them a strong work ethic. Along with their own children they had many hired hands in the summer. Young men from the Indian placement program, relatives, and friends came to be taught that work ethic. They did this with their partners Ed and Carol Clark, Stan's brother and his wife. Stan and Joyce were married for 56 years when Joyce died in 2004.

An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day- Saints he served in many callings including High Priest Group Leader, Ashton Stake High Council, Bishop and a missionary with his wife Joyce to the Macon Georgia Mission.

Stan was active in the Republican party serving in many capacities and in January of 2017 received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his many years of service. He served on the Potato Advisory Committee, Federal Land Bank Board, chairman of Board of Directors of Marysville Ditch Company and Water District 1 Committee of Nine. In 2000 then Governor Dirk Kempthorne appointed Stan as a liaison between the governor's office and Idaho Department of Water Resources and also Parks and Recreation. He also worked closely with Governor Butch Otter regarding water issues, which was one of his greatest passions. In fact, the day before his death he attended water meetings in Rexburg.

On May 5, 2009 he married Janis Strange Draper. They were married for 8 years before her untimely death on July 21, 2017 in a car accident in which Stan was injured and had worked so hard to recuperate from. Stan and Janis took care of each other and he became a father and grandpa to Janis' children and grandchildren.

Stan is survived by his children Ann Oldham, Frank (Barbara) Clark, Shellie (Rick) Blanchard, Lexie (John) Waddell, Mat (Debra) Clark, Joe (Katrina) Brush, Jim (Anna) Brush. Brothers: Leland Edgar (Carol) Clark, Jay (Sandy) Clark and sisters Evelyn Mason Neeley and Annetta Hendrickson. 31 grandchildren and 59 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, both his wives Joyce Reynolds Clark and Janis Strange Draper Clark, a son - in - law Lyle Oldham, and Clea Daniels, a sister.
