Thomas
Jacobsen
Jan 20, 1936 — Mar 7, 2024
Pastor Thomas Carl Jacobsen was called to heaven on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at the age of 88 years.
He was born January 20, 1936, in Portland Oregon to parents Carl Johan Jacobsen and Gertrude Brown Jacobsen and raised in Spokane Washington. As a child, Tom enjoyed helping his father in the family bakery, exploring along the Spokane River on his bicycle, and discovering a love of music that he would carry with him. He also began developing a relationship with God that became his life's work.
As a teenager, Tom was an active member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, where he taught Sunday School and served as a church camp counselor. He graduated from high school and college at Concordia Lutheran College in Portland Oregon where he also met the love of his life, Rosemarie Bolland. During his time at Concordia, Tom was called by God to become a Lutheran pastor. He entered Concordia Seminary in Saint Louis Missouri in 1956, and was ordained as a Lutheran pastor in 1961. His first ministry was in Mesa Arizona. Over the years he served multiple congregations in Wyoming and Nebraska.
Tom and Rosemarie were married on August 23, 1959. They were blessed with three children, Carl, Jenny, and Krystal. Tom retired from the ministry in 2003, while continuing to serve as a vacancy pastor. In 2007, Tom and Rosemarie moved to her home town of Ashton, Idaho.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years Rosemarie Jacobsen and their three children, Carl Henry Jacobsen (wife Lisa Min), Jenette Marie Shaw (husband Shawn Shaw), and Krystal Michelle Dawson (husband Rob Dawson).
Tom is also survived by grandchildren Mikaela, Morgan, John, Ryan, and great grandchild Amelie.
Tom will be remembered for his beautiful voice, sense of humor, and boundless positivity.
