Obituary

Victor Marotz

Victor William Marotz, 93, of Ashton, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2016, at Fairwinds Sandcreek Assisted Living, surrounded by his family.

Vic was born May 1, 1923, in Ashton, Idaho to Max William and Emma Marotz. He was the seventh child with 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

His father died when he was 11, so his brothers took over the farm and he learned to farm from then on. He grew up loving the land. He attended school in Ashton and graduated from Ashton High in 1941. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1944, and then upon returning home he met the love of his life, Mabel Steinmann. They were married on November 22, 1949. They started their family with their firstborn, Susan, in 1951, then Jeff, Patti, Sandi and Dennis followed. Vic loved sports but his favorite was boxing. He had the opportunity to meet Muhammad Ali and shake his hand. He also took his son and sons-in-law to a boxing match with Boom Boom Mancini and Hector "Macho" Camacho in Reno, NV.

Throughout his life, he farmed and was active in the community. He was a member of the Ashton Community Methodist Church. He served on the Board of Directors for the Fremont Co-Op. He volunteered at the Hess Heritage Museum and the Ashton Visitor Center. He enjoyed going for coffee and catching up on the latest news with many friends there. He enjoyed the outdoors greatly with hiking, skiing, and camping. He was a member of the Garden Club. He loved traveling and was able to see many places in the world. He took his kids, grandkids and great-grandchildren on a cruise for the adventure of a lifetime.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel; son Jeff (JoNell) Marotz of Nampa; daughters, Susan (Gary) Marsden of Ashton, Patti (Kerry) Huntsman of Idaho Falls, Sandi (Bill) Bowersox of Ashton; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandechildren; and a sister-in-law, Carol Marotz Comstock of Ashton. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Dennis Marotz; granddaughter Denni Dawn Sharp; grandson Zachary Jade Huntsman; and his siblings Carl, Elsie, Max, George, Herman and Louise.

Most of all he will be remembered for his zest for life. He made a huge impact on many lives. We will always remember the many memories and fun times we had with him and will miss him greatly.

To join in honoring his memory, the funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m on Thursday, November 10, at the Ashton Community Methodist Church with Pastor Desi Larson officiating.
