Obituary

Virginia K. Hess Tolman was born the 28th of January 1939, in St. Anthony, Idaho, the daughter of Sherman Smith Hess and June Lansberry Hess.

She died on the 11th of July 2018, in Bountiful, Utah at the home of her son Eric Tolman and his wife Monika.

She was preceded by her parents, brothers William and Dean Hess, sisters Mary and Jessie, and her children David, Dane, and Martha Tolman.

She is survived by her sister Janet Codling of Idaho, brother Bruce, brother David, sister Gail, and her children Angela and Robert Finucci  of Rigby, Idaho, Eric and Monika Tolman of Bountiful Utah, Kelly Tolman of Adrian, Oregon, and Kishka and Chris Erekson of Provo, Utah. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She married and later divorced David M. Tolman.

Virginia graduated from North Fremont High School in Ashton, Idaho, and later graduated from Eastern Oregon State College. Virginia enjoyed a prosperous teaching career in Oregon, Idaho, and Utah. As a school librarian, coach, and teacher, she inspired and motivated many students. Virginia was an artist, a teacher, and above all a mother. She raised four children whom it was her pride to see married with children of their own.

She will be buried in Ashton, Idaho, where she requests that there be no flowers for the funeral as she is allergic to them and does not wish to sneeze during the services. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local charity or to the North Fremont High School athletic fund.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 17, at Baxter Funeral Home, 717 Main Street, in Ashton. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., and Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., both times at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery.

She thanks all of her many friends and family for their love and support. Her motto was: If you think you are happy then you are happy; it is a state of mind because bad things happen to us all, so be happy.
