Wilford James Green, 96, died July 12, 2015, at the Central Utah Veterans Home in Payson, UT.
He was born January 21, 1919, to Sam and Vivian Green in Oakley, ID. He attended school in Pocatello, ID, and graduated from Pocatello High School. He attended University of Idaho Southern Branch, now Idaho State University.
He served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater.
He married Velma Hillam on August 6, 1943, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had seven children: Kaye (Don) Miller of Weiser, ID; Vera (Don - deceased) Knox of Phoenix, AZ; James Wilford; Wilma (Bill) Zink of Sandy, UT; Betty Steen of Pocatello, ID; Barbara (Dennis) Jensen of Smithfield, UT; and John A.
They owned a farm southwest of Ashton, Idaho, where he farmed for 35 years.
Family and his membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were the focus of his life. While milking cows kept them close to home, the family enjoyed camping and many trips to Yellowstone National Park.
In 1969 he left farming and went to work for the Idaho Farm Bureau Federation. He worked there for 15 years. This led to their eventual move to Pocatello, ID.
After he retired, Wilford and Velma served an LDS mission in the Philippines Bagio Mission. His sweetheart of 43 years, Velma, died in 1987.
He married Oma Lee Armstrong January 7, 1989. She added four more children to his family: Cindy (Stewart) Nelson of Inkom, ID; Randy (Paige) Armstrong of Inkom, ID; Robert Armstrong of Inkom, ID; Kim (Monte) Peterson of Blackfoot, ID. Family and service continued to fill their lives. Wilford and Oma Lee served two LDS missions; one in Sacramento, CA, and one in Fort Hall, ID. They resided in Inkom, ID, for the majority of their marriage. They enjoyed traveling and spent many winters in Arizona.
Again he had to tell a sweetheart good-bye after 22 years, when Oma Lee died in 2011.
He has 44 grandchildren and 80 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Wilford is preceded in death by his parents, his six siblings, two sons, one son-in-law, and two grandsons.
His funeral will be held at the Ashton First Ward Chapel on July 18, 2015. The viewing will be from 11:00 – 11:45 AM, and the funeral service will be at 12:00 noon. Interment will be in the Pineview Cemetery in Ashton, Idaho.
